Ready. Set. WRITE! 2014 #4

{click here for all the RSW details!}

How I did on last week’s goal(s)

I only read one book but it was a great one (OPEN ROAD SUMMER). Met (and exceeded by a decent amount) my word count goals--definitely getting back into the swing of drafting. FINALLY. Sent a couple of queries.

My goal(s) for this week

Write 500+ words five days this week, and work on how I want this story to end.

A favorite line from my story OR a word or phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised

Annabelle opened her eyes behind her gold-rimmed aviators, tipping her head back to feel the wind rushing over her face and catching her hair, to bathe in the glow of the brilliant midday sun.

The biggest challenge I faced this week

I had a writing-related existential crisis around the end of the week. So fun! Not.

Something I love about my WIP

This week I added a cat! Cats make everything better.

See you next Monday for another check-in!

  1. I absolutely adore pets and animals in stories. My stories have to have either a pet or a young kid. :) And boo to writing-related existential crises. Hope that's all resolved.

    Good luck this week!

  2. Sorry to hear about your crisis. Hope it's past and maybe it's strengthened you in some way. Congrats surpassing your word count goal. That's always a great feeling. I love outrageous shoes too!

  3. I'm right there with you on the existential writing crisis. My theory is that it's because I've been writing for 7 years now. And isn't there something about everything losing its shine in the 7th year? I don't know what it is for you, but I hope it works itself out.

And adding a cat absolutely saved my story. I hope it does the same for you. :)

  4. Oh no. An existential crisis is no good, but I've definitely been there. Hope this week is better for you.

  5. I adored OPEN ROAD SUMMER, and your excerpt rocks! 3rd person, yes? I'm always happy when I see people using it because it's so uncommon in YA. And yay for adding a cat. My WiP has one too. :-)

  6. Cats DO make everything better. :-) Awesome that you met and exceeded you goals for the week, but the existential crisis is not awesome. So sorry that happened to you. Been there too (a lot), and you're right, it's so not fun. I love the excerpt you shared, Rebecca! Hope you have a wonderful writing week! :D

  10. Cats DO make everything better! Or worse. Sometimes worse, haha. My cat's been really sick lately so take my opinion with a grain of salt :)

Good luck on your goals this week!

  15. Right there with ya on the deciding how to end a story thing!

And I like Adrianne's idea about cats making every story better.

Best wishes for the week ahead. You've got this. :)

  16. Loved the imagery in your excerpt! And I never much liked aviator sunglasses, but after reading that, I might want some... ;) Happy writing this week!
