What's Up Wednesday...

Aloha friends! Time to see how everyone's doing on this less-than-sunny Wednesday.

What I'm Reading:

This weekend I read HOLD STILL by Nina LaCour, who you all already I know I fangirl over, and just...everyone. Go read this book right now. But not anywhere or with anyone who you wouldn't want to see you sobbing, okay? Okay. Now I'm right at the beginning of AMY & ROGER'S EPIC DETOUR by Morgan Matson--I really enjoyed SECOND CHANCE SUMMER, so I have good feelings about this one. (Sidenote--I really prefer the US covers to these UK ones, although I still think this one's cute.)

What I'm Writing:

I've been working on my query (PSA: Query Shark is the best), and...I've started a rewrite.

I know.

I never EVER thought I would rewrite anything; I always figured that if I thought a story was not working so much so that I needed to scrap everything and start over, I just wouldn't do it. Drafting is not my favourite thing, so the idea of essentially drafting the same story twice did not appeal to me. But...

It's not really the same story. It has some of the same characters, and some of the same ideas, but enough is different that it feels new to me. (We'll see how long that feeling lasts, huh?)

What Inspires Me Right Now:

On tumblr recently I saw the absolute PERFECT gif for a future story, and then whilst wandering through YouTube I stumbled upon the video it came from! I honestly can't wait to start writing this story--after I finish this rewrite, and draft the other story that's been hovering in the planning stages for a long time, that is. It never ends, does it?

What Else I'm Up To:

Trying to plan a night out with my friends in Bristol because my friend Katie is GRADUATING this year! So we won't have a house to stay in in the fine city of Briz, (sadface) but she will be coming back home so I will finally have someone to hang out with during termtime! We are also formulating plans for a podcast! And a joint blog! Christ knows if any of that will actually happen because the number of things we've planned over the years but not actually done is about, oh, one million.

And that, lovelies, is what I've been up to. Off to catch up with everyone else's posts over at Jaime's blog!

What's Up Wednesday

I'm such a bad blogger! I keep thinking of things to post about, but then I haven't got the energy to write the post, or I forget, or I put it off until tomorrow...I'm going to try harder, I really am.

But I'll stop beating myself up about it for now, because it's Wednesday, and time to check in with what everyone's been up to :)

What I'm Reading:

Yesterday I finished AMELIA ANNE IS DEAD AND GONE by Kat Rosenfield--perfectly creepy and haunting, with vivid imagery and rich language. Now I'm reading BUNHEADS by Sophie Flack. I love ballet (all the pointe shoes and tutus!), and I especially love hearing about what goes on when the dancers aren't on stage, all the work and passion that goes into it. So I'm hoping that I'll love this book, too.

What I'm Writing:

I've finished this round of revisions...I think. I'm at that stage of have I done this enough? Should I rewrite the diner scene? What do any of these words even MEAN?! I'm kind of sick of looking at it now. (Sorry, little story. I still love you.)

What Inspires Me Right Now:

Honestly...not much. I hate to be a downer, but oooooh boy this depression business really kicks my ass some days. (Message to brain: could you, like, not?) I'm just trying to keep on writing and dancing around the kitchen and moving along. And always hoping tomorrow will be better--which it often is :)

What Else I've Been Up To:

Again, not much, really...I know, I know, I'm so boring! I've been working, watching Breaking Bad, and that's about it. Actually, one cool thing I've been doing is writing a short story with my girl Jess. We email one sentence at a time and so far it's really fun! It's a weird little story about a freckle-faced boy named Noah. Well. It could have been normal, but I made it weird. Sorry, Jess!

Well, that's life around here lately. I'm feeling the need to end on a cheerier note, so...

Don't forget that!

And hop on over to Jaime's blog for all the other What's Up Wednesday posts :)

What's Up Wednesday!

What's that, a new wonderful weekly Wednesday post? Yes!

Thanks to Jaime and Erin for coming up with this, ensuring that I don't have to come up with my own topics to blog about (the well is running dry...)

What I'm Reading:

GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn--I'm less than 100 pages in, not quite knowing what to think of it yet...I haven't read an adult book in ages, so it's a change! I had a really slow reading month in April, and I'm hoping May will be much better.

What I'm Writing:

I'm going through another round of revisions on my boy-meets-girl-meets-crazy-adventure MS. I had to rewrite a big chunk and tweak everything that came after it to reflect the changed events, which was scary to think about, but (hopefully) over now! So it's only small
changes left...well, in comparison. I'm stuck on what to do after that, though--send it out to more betas, or just start querying? I think this MS is good (remind me I said that the next time I'm bashing it, okay?) but I don't want to jump the gun!

What Else I've Been Up To:

I started my library assistant job a few weeks ago, and I am having such a good time. I work with books. BOOKS. How could I not enjoy it?!

Since it's spring, I'm "spring cleaning" my room. What that actually means is I move the pile of magazines on top of the pile of clothes, clean that patch of carpet, and put them back. It's a system...of some kind.

What Inspires Me Right Now:

Is there something in the water? There seems to be a TON of good writerly news at the moment, and that's what's inspiring me. Seeing all the book deals, agent announcements, even just those "I finished a draft!" tweets--they put me in a good mood and make me think that even though writing is hard and getting published is difficult, it's NOT IMPOSSIBLE! Which is good :)

I'm also feeling very inspired by the sun coming out, which means I get to work outside sometimes instead of trapped in the house, or the library, or the coffee shop...yay! The fresh air makes me so much more productive, I swear.

Hop over to Jaime's blog to see everyone else's What's Up Wednesday posts :)
