What's Up Wednesday

What I'm Reading:

BLAZE by Laurie Boyle Crompton, which I'm finding pretty fun and easy so far.

Totally digging the comic book angle, but not so much digging this: "Stuart is one of only three black students in our school, which makes him a semi-celebrity. I feel somewhat hip and urban having him here at my house." Oh, come on, now. Hip and urban? You're just trying to annoy me, aren't you?

What I'm Writing:

Back to my revisions (yay? I don't know anymore.) Had some excellent and very helpful feedback from Sara (again) and Suzi, so I have plenty to work on. I'm hoping I can get through it by next week, in time for Ready. Set. WRITE! (Click it. You know you want to.) I've just added a new chapter and I have a date with an out-of-control Chapter 9 when I finish writing this. YOU WILL BE BEATEN, MANUSCRIPT.

What Inspires Me Right Now:

Good music. Dreaming about the future. Photographs of beautiful things. Other people's determination. Blue skies. Liking what I'm writing.

What Else I've Been Up To

...Yet again, not much. Working, sleeping, getting some sun while it's here. (I am so very boring.) This week I'm going to do something fun so I'll have something to talk about next week! (Any suggestions for something fun and different and cheap/free to do? Hit me up!)

Short and sweet this week. Back to revising I go...

xoxo

  1. Oh ick. Hip and Urban? I had to giggle at it, a little over-the-top. But otherwise that sounds like a really interesting book - I'll have to check it out! :)

Good luck with your revisions, those can be the worst! D:

    1. I did the biggest eyeroll at that line! It is pretty enjoyable, and Blaze is a funny gal :)

  2. *Wince* on the hip and urban quote. Hopefully it gets better after that? I can't wait for Ready, Set, Write. It is going to be great. :0)

    1. I can't wait either! It'll be fun to cheer everyone on and have people making sure I'm actually doing what I said I would ;)

  3. Hip and urban? Eek. That aside, 'fun and easy' sounds appealing to me right now, so I'll have to check it out. I hear you on the revisions: yay? comment. That's kind of where I'm at too (if you exclude yesterday's foray into uncharted, pantsing/SNI territory just for giggles). I'm hoping to get this rewrite completely done during Ready. Set. WRITE! So I can finally get working on these shiny other ideas. And I love your What Inspires Me section. ♥

    1. I love revising but after a while it just gets...ugghhh. Taking a break for your SNI sounds awesome though! That rush of new-story excitement is always such fun :)

    1. I love the cover, too--so striking, and the colours are beautiful :) thanks for the luck, I need all I can get!

  5. That's a fun cover but wow, don't you hate it when a book takes several steps back like that?

Your inspiration section is fantastic. I think I feel the same. ESPECIALLY the blue skies. To see them here at last is just marvelous!

    1. Yeah, it's always disappointing, especially when it's been so good up to that point :(

Thanks! It's just so nice to walk around in a pretty dress and sit in the park for a bit :)

  6. Ack, that quote isn't great. Is the MC supposed to be a little obnoxious? Or is that just a badly missed mark? Glad the rest of it is fun, though.

And I'm also looking forward to Ready. Set. Write!

    1. I think she's supposed to be kind of an outcast and not cool, so for once she feels like she has some "street cred" or whatever. It is obnoxious to me though!

  7. So, I totally want to read BLAZE just based on the cover. WOW! And so glad you're going to be joining us for Ready. Set. WRITE! Also, your week doesn't sound boring! I am very happy to spend time in the sun. :) Have a great weekend!

  8. Have fun getting your Chapter 9 under control. Unruly chapters are such a challenge. I'm excited you'll be joining us for Ready. Set. Write! We're going to have a great bunch of people cheering each other on! :)

    1. And why is it that the unruly chapters always pop up in the most inconvenient place and have vital info in them?! I dream of chapters I can just completely trash!

  9. Sometimes the small things are the fun one and based on what you put in your inspiring section, I´d say you know how to look at the blue sky and see the world :-)

Sara´s comments are SO helpful! Good luck with your revisions! You can dooooooo it!

Love your inspiration too - very much like my own :)
    Good luck with your revisions!

    1. Me too! It's okay, quick and easy but I'm finding the MC a tiny bit annoying. Like, want to slap her annoying, haha!

  11. Ohhhh, best of luck wrangling in that chapter 9 of yours! I think she may have run off and gone wicked with my chapter 10...pesky damn chapters. :) Good luck with your revisions!

And while I love the cover of BLAZE that quote just so isn't cool. I hope it turns itself around for you real quick, because it sounds like it could be a promising read!

Enjoy the rest of your week - I can't wait to see what your "something fun" turns out to be for next week's WUW!

    1. I was so enjoying until I got to that line :/ To be honest, it's slowly getting worse as I go...it's still pretty fun, but far from perfect sadly.

I can't wait to see what my something fun is too...no great ideas as of yet!!!

  12. Hey lady! Can't wait to see your revisions... you are very talented and you know what you want to say... you just gotta get it down on paper! Super easy, right?

You can do it - but don't forget to give yourself a break now and then. I know you want to hurry up and get that thing out in the world (aka query it), but give yourself time to make sure it's ready. I learned that the hard way. :)

It will happen - you believe it in your heart, so it will. <3

    1. Oh Sara, this is just what I needed to hear. Thanks :) (I also learned the hard way re:querying too early!)

  13. Rolling my eyes at that quote...moving on.

Good luck with your revisions!! I'm super excited for Ready. Set. WRITE! so I'll be cheering you on! :)

Can't wait for next week, I've been working on my cheer technique! Go, writers, go!!!

  14. Ugh. Hip and urban? That's so gross. That's as bad as people talking about having "gay best friends" like they're some sort of accessory or something. Is the rest of the book worth reading? Because I don't want one thing to turn me off, but that's sort of a big thing.

I'm SO excited for Ready. Set. WRITE! My motivation decided to take a vacation right after I wrote yesterday's post, so I'm hoping this helps bring it back!
